Digital platform facilitating coding for climate action hackathons
Introduction
C4CA or Code for Climate Action is an initiative in collaboration with Amazon. Students from partnering institutions can form a team together and work on cutting edge solutions focused on climate action.
What was our main concern?
Amazon wanted to provide a robust platform for students which would be easy to register, go through the course material and submit the solutions. In this case, we had relevant research information shared by Amazon to start working on the design.
A platform was needed where the students could access the learning material (linked to Meraki in this case), brainstorm project ideas and submit the final project.
Design Approach
To solve the students’ needs, we came up with the following solutions:
1. An easy registration based on auto-generated username and password for a C4CA team shared by the teacher to the students. The students could use the same credentials to login as their team. It resolved the large overhead of using Google login or regular email login as many students did not have email accounts
2. A dashboard highlighting the course progress and also progress among peers
3. Functionality for easily sharing project topic ideas and project solutions via shareable links or file
